Russian physicists take home the gold
12 July 2011
Two entries presented by Moscow State University Physics Department employees and graduates were awarded the World Intellectual Property Organization GRAN PRIX at the 26th annual Invention & New Product Exposition (INPEX-2011, held June 14-17 2011 in Pittsburg, USA). The projects were presented thanks to financial support from Oleg Deripaska’s Volnoe Delo Foundation.
These scientific projects deal with copy protection and identity verification of valuables and apply the latest developments in the fields of laser physics and nanotechnologies. Back in April 2009 these projects had been awarded the Gold Medal at the 37th annual International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva – and were included into the “100 most important Russian inventions” list of the Federal Intellectual Property Agency. Thanks to support from the Foundation, the scientific projects were also presented at the International Invention and Innovation Fair in Moscow in 2010, where they were once again awarded gold medals.
Volnoe Delo Foundation sees the promotion and support of promising fundamental and applied research of young and leading scientist and scientific teams as one of its strategic priorities - much like it does its extensive work in the area of ‘brain drain’ prevention. The Foundation has for long been a partner of Moscow State University. Volnoe Delo lends systematic support to the Physics Department – of which Oleg Deripaska is himself a graduate – and also takes part in innovational programs geared towards the development and growth of the university at large.
