
Russian robots in Abu Dhabi

The winners of Robofest-2011 (a joint programme organized by Oleg Deripaska’s Volnoe Delo Foundation and Rosmolodezh) attended this years World Robotic Olympics.
The Olympics were held in Abu Dhabi, on November 17 through 21. It brought together 377 teams from 35 countries. Russia was represented by 23 teams from Moscow, Ulyanovsk, Nadym, Zheleznogorsk and Chelyabinsk regions. The national team did well in the qualifying matches - almost all the teams made the top 16 in their category.
The theme of this year’s Olympics was “robots that improve lives”. The Russian teams presented some very interesting projects and inventions. The team from St. Petersburg presented a robot that painted Christmas balls. The girls from Miass presented a “smart house”, in which all of processes are automated. The team from Zheleznogorsk demonstrated a conveyor for school cafeterias. The team from Snezhinsk (Chelyabinsk) took 6th place in the WRO Gen Foorball category (a new category introduced this year that evaluates robot football players).
