Volnoe Delo Oleg Deripaska Foundation opens first dog shelter in Sochi

5 February 2014
Sochi, 5 February 2014 - Volnoe Delo Oleg Deripaska Foundation, one of Russia’s largest private charity funds, has opened the first dog shelter in Sochi, PovoDog.
PovoDog became the first shelter for dogs in need in Sochi. Now there are over 100 stray dogs who have been brought to shelter by volunteers. Homeless and abandoned dogs have been given food and medical treatment.
The shelter features all the necessary conditions for treating and curing animals: spacious dog-houses, food and vaccines. All the newcomers are thoroughly examined and cured.
A support service will soon be opened to assist all those interested in adopting the animals.
Tamara Rumyantseva, the head of Volnoe Delo Foundation: “Creation of the first dog shelter in Sochi is an important step as it shows that business is concerned about social responsibility and animal rights. There is no water and electricity now, we have to bring water in containers and use temporary electrical generators. But we hope to move to the new place soon, with more comfortable conditions for animals.”
