Pavlov students receive computers
16 May 2011
1380 student laptops were given to elementary school children in 6 municipal schools in Pavlov, Nizhny Novgorod region as part of the “Computers for Schools” Programme realized by Oleg Deripaska’s Volnoe Delo Foundation, in partnership with the administration of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the Pavlov municipal district and GAZ Group.
As part of the Programme, Volnoe Delo, enacting the introduction of the “1 student – 1 computer” modern model of instruction, provided 56 elementary school classes of 6 municipal schools with computer equipment. The 1380 student laptops will be provided with Microsoft Student Innovation Suite (MSIS) software installed.
The administration of the Nizhny Novgorod region in partnership with the administration of the Pavlov municipal district equipped participating schools with computers for elementary school teachers, installation hardware and licensed educational software – and also organized training courses for teachers.
The model developed by the Volnoe Delo Foundation, which takes into account the individual characteristics of each school, connects the student and teacher computers via wireless network. This allows the teacher to monitor and manage the instructional process from his computer, interacting with students as a whole – or giving them individual tasks. The methods used in instruction are based on network communications, data retrieval, the creation of digital objects, as well as various interactive technologies. All the computers are installed with modern licensed software that covers such subjects as Russian language, math, nature study and others.
The Volnoe Delo Foundation also provided intense training courses for the teachers in Pavlov, courses that will allow them to quickly master the new methods of instruction. 56 elementary school teachers have already undergone training under these programmes.
In the future the Volnoe Delo Foundation will carry out technical, methodological and informational support for Programme participants by providing consultation on the specially created Programme web portal.
GAZ Group is providing organizational support for the “Computers for Schools” Programme in participating regions. In 2008 the Programme came to schools in the Avtozavodsk District in Nizhniy Novgorod – and over 10 000 students now have the means to study with the use of the most modern technologies available.
