Inclusive education
Since 2004 the Foundation has been involved in the "New Generation School" programme. A year after the Foundation joined the project, 37 schools from 11 regions of Russia were involved in it.
As the result there emerged a replicable model of a school that had the culture of independent learning. Nowadays this concept is a key to school modernisation in Russia. The model changes fundamentally the nature of a teacher and brings a sense of healthy competition and a habit of continuing professional development to pupils.
The principle which is implemented by enthusiastic teachers is that education continues throughout the child’s day. The programme includes the promotion of search and research activity by children, non-alignment of behavior patterns and joint design and research work by teachers, students and their parents.
Children enrolled in this model were happy to go to school and spend the whole day there. They are well trained in foreign languages and are free to use the computer. They know how to draw, dance and design. Teachers focus on identifying and developing the abilities of each child. Parents are actively involved in school life.
Communication among schools within the network of The New Generation School program is supported by regional resource centres in Abakan, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Ust-Ilimsk, Ust-Labinsk, Chelyabinsk and Yaroslavl.
In 2008 Moscow school number 26 was the first school in the program implemented model of full-time primary school, working on a holistic program that combines and synchronizes primary and complementary education, all forms of classroom and extra-curricular activities, school and out-of-school activities.
Lessons learnt from that school are successfully implemented in other schools of regions participating in the programme. In 2010 the school was given the status of a federal pilot site (FPS) for 2010-2013.
